JL Crowe SecondaryWith service through the Ministry of Education and associated ministries, residents of the City of Trail are provided with a complete range of educational programs.

BASIC EDUCATION
Trail is one of six municipalities and several smaller communities served by School District No. 20 (Kootenay-Columbia).

KINDERGARTEN – GRADE 7 (K-7)
There are two elementary schools serving the residents of Trail, one within the City’s boundaries and one located in the neighbouring Village of Warfield.

SECONDARY – GRADE 8 – 12
Secondary school students attend JL Crowe Secondary School in Trail.

Private religious educational facilities are also available within the City of Trail.

Destiny Christian Training Academy provides elementary and secondary education for students in grades Kindergarten through 12. Please call (250) 368-8888 for more information.

St. Michael’s Catholic School provides elementary education for students in grades Kindergarten to 7. Please call (250) 368-6151 for more information or visit their website at www.stmichaelselementary.ca.

POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION

Selkirk College has been providing post-secondary educational programs for many years in the Kootenays, and has three campuses to serve the students:

  • Castlegar (main campus) is located 35 km from Trail
  • Trail
  • Nelson is located 80 km from Trail

As well, Selkirk College, through its Extension Education Division, offers courses via the Continuing Education offices on campus and the adult learning centers throughout the region.

Health Care

Health care needs are serviced by the Interior Health Authority (IHA).

The Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital is located in Trail and serves the needs of the West Kootenay region. The hospital is the largest diagnostic and acute care facility in the region. Residential care services are offered at a number of facilities, with a new facility opened in 2004. As well, new supportive housing and assisted living apartments are now available in Trail.

Home Support Services are offered to support clients with personal care supports in their own home. Community Health Workers are trained care providers, who assist seniors, clients recovering from injury or illness, and other adults with chronic medical conditions.
