The City of Trail has two sister cities, Bocchigliero, Italy and Sagamihara, Japan (formerly Tsukui, Japan).
The twinning relationships are designed to foster cultural, educational and economic exchanges between the communities and to deepen the understanding and friendship between our countries.

Bocchigliero is located in the southern portion of Italy, in the Province of Cosenza, and has a population of 2000. Many Trail families can trace their roots to Bocchigliero. Work is underway to implement an exchange program for residents.

In 2006, Trail established a sister city relationship with the City of Sagamihara in Japan when the Town of Tsukui, with which Trail had shared a sister city relationship for 15 years, amalgamated with Sagamihara. Sagamihara is located approximately 40 kilometres southwest of Tokyo and has a population of over 600,000.
In the twinning relationship with the Town of Tsukui, resident exchanges were organized, allowing residents of the Greater Trail area to travel abroad and stay in the homes of Tsukui residents. Similarly, homestay volunteers in Trail welcomed residents of Tsukui into their homes. These exchanges provided an opportunity for a true view of life in another culture and it is hoped that the same experience will continue with the City of Sagamihara and its residents.
